APRIL 30, 2002 -- The Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics will be held for the third year starting on May 17 and continuing through June 1.

They will be centered out of the Bethesda Senior Center, but will take place from several locations around Gwinnett.

Our senior movement was founded to give the senior citizens of Gwinnett and the surrounding area an opportunity to participate in games of varying activity levels. These games provide the enjoyment of participation and the satisfaction of achieving medals for their accomplishment.

There will be competition in 17 different sport categories with offerings in sports requiring almost no physical activity to those which will require a reasonable level of activity and endurance.

The events for 2002 are: Archery, Basketball throw, Billiards, Singles Bowling, Doubles Bowling, Golf, Holey Board, Horseshoes, Golf Putting, Field Games, Race walk, Running, Shuffleboard, Table Tennis, Tennis, Walking, Table Games and Field activities.

We award gold, silver and bronze medals in each of the different sport categories, for men and women in age groupings of five years from 50 to 85+. This allows for over 800 medals to be awarded for winners in their events. There is no limit to the number of sports that each participant may enter.

An application for the games can be obtained at the Gwinnett Senior Center at Bethesda Park, just off Ronald Reagan Parkway at Bethesda Church road.

Deadline for entries is past. However, people are invited to see the Games. Altogether, some 193 entrants are anticipated in the many events.

The $10 entry fee will give you the opportunity to participate in the games and to attend lunches at opening and closing ceremonies. All participants will also receive a commemorative T-Shirt.

Come join in the fun and fellowship. If you need additional information call me, Al Sandham, president of the games, at 770-972-2434, or email be ASandham@aol.com.
