JUNE 28, 2002 -- Looking for a great way to spend the Fourth of July this year? Bring the whole family to the 14th Annual Gwinnett Glows fireworks display and carnival on Thursday, July 4, 2002 at the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center in Lawrenceville.

Carnival activities get underway at 4 p.m. with the fireworks taking off after the sun goes down (approximately 9:45 p.m.).

Festival-goers will join thousands of their neighbors for this annual celebration that last year attracted 80,000 people. Those wishing to claim a good spot for the fireworks show should arrive early and enjoy kids' activities, great food and live music.

Eagle 106.7 radio station will broadcast the event live. According to Gwinnett Glows event coordinator Debbie Adam, "The celebration grows a little bit every year. This year the new element is a rock climbing wall for kids and adults."

Kids' activities include a giant slide, super slide, petting zoo, inflated maze, moonwalks, face painting, airbrush and temporary tattoos, pony and trackless train rides, sand art, and more.

A live band "Puttin'on the Hitz" featuring "Cadillac Ranch" will perform from throughout the afternoon and evening. Local country musician Justin Tyler Wilson and Mallary Hope, winner of the Duo of the Year Award 2002 at the Louise Mandrell Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., will also perform. Other entertainers include a fire juggler, stilt walker, magician, and clowns.

Event organizers added an arts and crafts element last year. These displays were such a big hit that they will be back as part of the fanfare.

"Since food always plays an important part in any special event, an abundance of food choices will be available for purchase," says Adam. The public can choose from barbecue, hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza, plus carnival favorites such as cotton candy, snow cones, ice cream, and funnel cakes.

Adam promises the evening's grand finale will be stunning. The fireworks show, set to music, starts at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Gwinnett Glows and all children's activities are free. The rain date is July 6. If you need added information, call 770-822-7101.

"Instead of getting married again, I'm going to find a woman I don't like and give her a house."

"I just saw an article about the new Gwinnett hockey team. It looks like they may be taking the name the Forum offered, the "Buttons." That would be great! ... Minor league franchises in any sport must be adopted by the community if they are to cause an impact in the area. Most of the players are still hungry enough to show the enthusiasm that the fans can attach to. Owners and general managers must learn this and do what ever it takes to make it happen."
