FEEDBACK
4/30: The
arts are alive and well at Norcross High
Editor, the Forum:
Concerning Gwinnett's arts programs:
I would like to praise the outstanding work of the drama and music
departments at Norcross High School under the direction of Gina
Peverly, Drama, and Daren Wise, Music.
The school's Quartet recently won first place in state competition!
My son, Stephen, was in the musical production of "Grease"
two weekends past. What a fabulous show it was! The kids were outstanding
and almost every performance was sold out.
Stephen has been involved in drama since his freshman year and
it has been the most rewarding experience of his high school years.
We must keep the arts in our public schools. It means so much to
our community and the students!
Thank you, Judi Rogers, Gina Peverly and Daren Wise for your dedication
to the arts at Norcross High School. Sincerely,
-- Nancy Yancey, Norcross
4/19: Shortsighted
vision creates problems today on Hwy. 316
Editor, the Forum:
I remember well the many years when Georgia Highway 316 ended at
Georgia 120. Then construction began of that portion from there
to Highway 29 east of Lawrenceville, and eventually, on to Athens.
The shortsighted approach has cost many lives and now has the DOT
in a dilemma about how to pay for it. Tolls may be the answer and
hopefully an express pass will be possible for all and especially
for the UGA students.
But don't forget about all those who travel that road daily --the
last count I heard at Georgia 20 was in excess of 80,000 per day--both
ways. Too bad they waited until now to find a solution.
Your church notation was well said. Yes, I am one of those who
attends on Wednesday nights!!

4/19: Wants no more
dams on Altamaha River system
Editor- The Forum:
The Jesup Press-Sentinel newspaper here recently published
a guest opinion by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution from April 8
dealing with five proposed dams on the tributaries that feed into
the mighty Altamaha River. I wonder if any of your readers saw or
read this editorial? (Remember, headland waters of the Altamaha
system are partly in Gwinnett County.)
Ye Gads! We certainly don't need any more dams. The article brings
out the effect of dams on the fishing and shrimping industry in
the river delta and the ocean, by decreasing water flow that is
critical to this area.
I live on the Altahama River. I have a deep well that goes 300
feet below the river. Just wonder how many more people along the
river who get their water this way?
The state is in a severe drought now and we surely don't need anyone
"messing" with the river or the tributaries that feed
this great river.

4/16: Nasuti story
recalls growing up in Tifton
Editor, the Forum:
Bert Nasuti's muses about his insightful experiences with Junior
Brooks took me home for a brief spell. Growing up in Tifton and
hanging around Brooks' Garage on Main Street across from Bowen Donaldson
Funeral Home in the 50's & 60's provided more education that
I ever received in my seven years of formal education at Georgia's
finest institutions of higher learning.
Mr. Brooks always had a smile and kind word for all us young pups
that would hang out and smell the oil and gasoline-stained floor
of his garage. That garage would work on some of the fanciest autos
Highway 41 and later I-75 delivered up to our little hamlet. Yankee
cars, yep, Cadillacs, Hudsons and occasionally a real live foreign
car, an Austin Healey or Jaguar or XKE. He repaired all the Yankee
cars that broke down on the way to Florida
To a young fellow infected with the fumes (perfume and exhaust
fumes---something that happens between 13-16 years for most young
men,) Brooks' Garage was a neat place to hang out.
Mr. Brooks knew that we all loved cars and he could always get
us to help him do something: wash, go get parts at Carmicheal's
Auto Parts or just press the brake pedal to get the brake lines
bled of air..
Thanks again to Commissioner Bert Nasuti for the nice memories.
Junior Brooks' shared wisdom came from his father and uncles, who
were just a few of the wise men of my boyhood community.
Tifton was the best place in the world to grow up. Thanks, Bert,
again for reminding me.

4/16: Will make sausage-run
to South Georgia
Editor, the Forum:
I go past Stripling's often on my way home to see my Mama in South
Georgia. Tell Bert I'll bring him some sausage if he feels the need.
-- Lois Salter, Berkeley Lake
4/16: Prints out many
issues for future reference
Editor, the Forum:
Congratulations, Elliott, on your first year of GwinnettForum!
And thank you for a great publication. I look forward to reading
the GwinnettForum every time it pops up on my e-mail. In fact, I
have printed out many of your issues and have placed them in a folder
on my desk for future reference. Keep up the great work!
-- Deb Roberts, United Way
4/12: Remember another
Pepsi version
Editor, the Forum:
Perhaps they had a different song in Tennessee or maybe my memory
is at fault, but I remember the Pepsi commercial as:
Pepsi Cola hits the spot.
12 full ounces that's a lot.
Twice as much for a nickel too.
Pepsi Cola is the drink for you.
-- Jesse Long, Duluth
(Editor's Note: Jesse, it may be that the editor's
memory over 40-50 or is it 60 years is wrong, too. Do you remember
after the main lines, came the refrain: "Nickel, nickel, nickel,
nickel, nickel......"--eeb)
4/9: Remember the
hyphen in Coca-Cola
Editor, the Forum:
Shame on you, Elliott! Coca-Cola should always have a hyphen!!!
I spent almost 28 years there and consider myself a part of the
Coke Culture. Coca-Cola will always be the pause that refreshes!
Enjoyed your article very much, but always remember to put the hyphen
in Coca-Cola!!!
-- Kathy Gestar in the big city of Snellville!!!!
4/5: Article prompts
move for safety purposes
Editor, the Forum:
These are great hints about used paint (in the Forum on March 29.)
I have some in my laundry room near the dryer to keep it warm, but,
as the article said, there could be sparks coming from the dryer.
Very dangerous indeed! I am going to move it now!
Thanks!
