BRACK: Maybe baseball suggests better way of picking political candidates

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | What if qualifying to run for president of the United States was as tough as becoming a major league baseball player? That’s the feeling we got when reading about the way baseball executives select their future players these days.

FOCUS: Does our nation want a leader who is a bully and a con artist?

By Alvin Leaphart, Jesup, Ga. | My grandmother, Florence Gibbs, a former United States Congressman, taught me “Noblesse oblige,” a French phrase meaning “nobility obliges.” It is the concept that nobility extends beyond mere entitlements and requires the person who holds such status to fulfill social responsibilities, particularly in leadership roles. She fervently believed that this applied to everyone in government, from the bottom to the top.

BRACK: Voters on both sides lament “What to do?” in presidential race

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | If I have heard this once, I have heard it a dozen times this political year. It continues, here two months before the presidential election.

“I just don’t know what I’m going to do in the presidential election.”

It sometimes comes from Republicans. At other times, it comes from people who would normally vote Democratic.

HOUSTON: Figuring out who to vote for this time is trying

By Debra Houston, contributing columnist | All right, already. I got the message! Since I wrote that I might not vote in the presidential election because we have less than stellar candidates, my friends have gently reprimanded me. My friend “D” says, “It is your civic duty to vote.”

HOUSTON: Might just stay at home when election day rolls around

By Debra Houston | A few random thoughts today.

I mentioned to my hairdresser I might not vote in the presidential election. “You must!” she said. “Not voting at all is an automatic yes-vote for Trump.”

BRACK: Questions arise now that presidential contest is almost settled

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher, GwinnettForum | You must admit that social media has been a mighty contributor to this 2016 political season.

In another way of saying this: look what we have done to ourselves.

We couldn’t get enough of Trump, or Bernie, and every so often, some of the other presidential candidates. So we turned inward, creating more bizarre buzzing for the political year.
