BRACK: First time since 1984, more Democratic votes in Gwinnett than GOP

MAY 25, 2018  |  For 34 years, Gwinnett has been a largely Republican County. However, judging from the turnout in the 2018 primary, the county may be moving toward more Democrats in office.

Not only that, remember that in the 2014 presidential election, Gwinnett went for Hillary Clinton, as 166,153 votes went to Ms. Clinton and 146,989 voted for President Trump.

BRACK: Comments from readers show pressures on our democratic republic

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Converging pressures are on our democratic republic like never before.

Once somewhat isolated by oceans that protected us, today’s cyber world knows no boundaries.

Today it’s not just other nations that threaten us. We have significant internal problems our country has not faced ever before.

BRACK: Democrats in Gwinnett ran much stronger than in years before

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | The United States is a great nation. It is resilient, and can survive Donald Trump. Be pleased and calmed knowing that.

The nation’s best period of government, it appears to us, is when Congress doesn’t necessarily rubber stamp everything the president sends forth. (The very best time we feel is when one House of Congress is of a different party than the president.) We suspect it won’t be long before the legislators find that they’ll need to limit the reach of the presidency. That would also have happened had another person been chosen to lead our country.

BRACK: Suit against county on district lines may have wrong approach

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Getting national attention last week was the story of minorities in Gwinnett bringing suit against the county for alleged voting irregularities in drawing boundaries for county commission and school board seats.

Time the story was out, the Los Angeles Times Reporter Jenny Jarvie delved back into the story. She may have hit the nail on the head when she talked to Brian Whiteside. He is a black Gwinnett attorney who may have one of the best positions to speak to this subject.

FOCUS: Democrats come together to elect nominee, oppose GOP nominee

By Alvin Leaphart, Jesup, Ga. | Regardless of your political views, attending this convention to help select our nominee for the President of the United States is one of the many aspects that makes our nation unique in the selection of our leader. In most of the world, a change in government is made through some sort of coup, either military or assassination.
