MYSTERY PHOTO: Time to figure out where another lighthouse is located

Yep, we like lighthouse photographs. It’s time to locate another lighthouse. Figure out where this one is located and send your answer to elliott@brack.net, including your hometown. Question: how long do you think it will take GwinnettForum to picture all the lighthouses in the USA?

Allan Peel of San Antonio, Tex. provided an answer to the recent Mystery Photo.  He writes: “This mystery photo is of a row of medieval, half-timbered cottages in a former fishermen’s district, now known as Klein-Venedig (German for ‘Little Venice’), on Bamberg’s Island City along the banks of the Regnitz River.

BRACK: From Germany to Georgia: following the Summerour family

By Elliott Brack  |  Family history books can sometimes be boring for persons outside the immediate family. However, Charles Summerour of Duluth has completed a 10-generation study of his Summerour family that gives good insights into the life of North Georgia, particularly centered on what his family did in gold mining and in farming in the Johns Creek area. It’s a fast read, and keeps readers fascinated by his distinctive family members.

BRACK: What’s on your home’s walls? Two of our paintings have stories

JUNE 1, 2021  |  Some homeowners have a minimal approach to bare walls.

I’m the opposite. Walls are meant for hanging objects, primarily pictorial scenes, although other items can decorate a house. Some like fabric hangings, plates, quilts, awards, photographs, or even entire collections.

BRACK: Trying to find out what happened to some missing mess trays

By Elliott Brack | Any veteran of military service will tell you: it’s not unusual for you to be assigned for additional duty. Years ago when a commissary officer in Germany, the Northern Area Command of the U.S. Army in Europe (USAEUR) ordered me to report for temporary duty to the Frankfurt Bahnhof (rail station). I was met by a Transportation Corps sergeant who routinely ferried troops by train to the Bremerhaven port for return to the United States.

BRACK: Refreshing, but hot, return to 1st German military posting

By Elliott Brack | AUG. 28, 2018  |  During the Dog Days of summer, we try to travel to a cooler destination than Georgia. Once when leaving Atlanta, the temperature was 95 F. On arrival in St. John Newfoundland, the airport weather was 50 degrees F. It didn’t take some of our party too long realize they had to buy warmer clothing!

BRACK: German river cruise offers beautiful scenery

By Elliott Brack |  Yes, we like to travel. We are just back from a trip to Germany, where we took a river cruise on the Mosel, Rhine and Main rivers. We had a great time, and on this river boat (Emerald Waterways), they don’t nickel and dime you for anything. Great way to travel!
