FOCUS: How you can be aware of what’s going  on in the world

BRACK: My first real work was under frantic and constant pressure

By Elliott Brack  |  It doesn’t hurt to be under pressure to see how you fare. Now what to me seems tame these days was right up there in a pressured situation back in my early days in a newsroom. It was the first Friday night in September with me just starting to work on The Macon Telegraph, the morning newspaper. Previously I had been on the afternoon paper, and moved to the a.m. paper on Labor Day.

NEWS: Fourth Estate is losing ground, which hurts democracy

By Elliott Brack  |  Here on the eve of Independence Day, the Fourth Estate may be losing a battle that cannot help our American system of government. Unless it can be turned around, this battle will be adding to the woes, and may doom, our way of life in the United States of America.

BRACK: Pay-for-play fake news sites popping up in USA, Gwinnett

By Elliott Brack  |  Fake news websites are now riding on the credibility that standard newspapers have built over the years to get their false messages out. BRACK: Governor’s idea of news seems more reasonable than AJC’s

By Elliott Brack  |  Governor Brian Kemp’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic has certainly been wishy-washy if not questionable.  His lack of understanding that local officials, particularly mayors, by definition ought to be able to order their populations to wear masks seemed unreasonable. If the local mayor thinks that his area is severely threatened by the pandemic, as an emergency measure, the mayor should protect his citizens and have the inherent right to order masking.

BRACK: Time to eat crow,  apologize for error on Loganville election

By Elliott Brack  | Every so often in the news business, you find it’s time to eat crow. Today is such a day for me.

Last Friday we fouled on reporting the results of the Loganville election.  Going to the Internet, we posted the results of the 2017 election, thinking we had the 2019 election. We simply did not read the small print correctly, and gave the wrong information.
