FOCUS: Sugar Hill names plaza for Realtor Dawn P. Gober

By Varessa Butts | The newly-created plaza at the Sugar Hill City Hall has been named for Dawn P. Gober, a Sugar Hill resident and long-standing advocate for the city. Mayor Steve Edwards and Council of the City of Sugar Hill have recognized her for her infectious energy and dedication to public service. Her work has helped define the Sugar Hill of today and set the stage for the welcoming and iconic destination city of tomorrow.

FOCUS: City of Sugar Hill named most active Georgia city by GMA

By Vanessa Butts | The City of Sugar Hill has been named by the Georgia Municipal Association as the Most Active City among Georgia’s 530 cities. This honor comes on the heels of another distinction. Sugar Hill was also awarded the American Heart Association’s award for worksite Innovation and is a “Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite.”

PHOTOS: Skating fun in Sugar Hill

SKATING FUN: Though the winter has been warm so far, people are flocking to a new element in Sugar Hill, its ice skating rink. Roving Photographer Frank Sharp recently visited the site, behind Sugar Hill City Hall. He says: “It’s great that area residents have a neighborhood skating rink so citizens don’t have to make the long drive to Centennial Olympic Park rink in downtown Atlanta to skate.” The Sugar Hill rink will be open until January 30. A snack bar is located at one end of the rink as Big Bird keeps an eye on the skaters.

FOCUS: Sugar Hill kicks off Thursdays@TheHill on June 11

Thursdays@The Hill, which will feature food trucks, a farmers’ market, live music, cornhole and more, will be held on the second Thursday of each month through October, the first starting June 11.

As the fourth largest city in Gwinnett County, and as the population continues to grow, city leaders are boldly moving forward with plans to build a 21st Century downtown destination for residents and visitors alike.
