NEWS BRIEFS: Medical school in Suwanee to graduate nearly 300

Close to 300 newly minted physicians, pharmacists, physical therapists, physician assistants, medical laboratory scientists and biomedical scientists will graduate from PCOM Georgia on Tuesday, May 23.  The formal commencement ceremony will be held at the Gas South District, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth, beginning at 1 p.m.

That was the day when PCOM Georgia’s fourth year medical students learned where they matched into residency programs and where they’ll spend their next three to seven years training in a specialty.

ANOTHER VIEW: Two PCOM grads leave practices to return to teach

By Barbara Myers  |  In 2009, four years after PCOM Georgia was established, PCOM Georgia Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Renee Himmelbaum, and Department of Family Medicine Assistant Professor Joy Zarandy matriculated into the campus’ osteopathic medicine program. They both remember their student years in a similar fashion.

NEWS BRIEFS: County names Cephas as is new fire chief 

Gwinnett County has a new fire chief, as the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners have approved a recommendation by County Administrator Glenn Stephens to appoint Fred Cephas to the role.  Current Gwinnett County Fire Chief Russell Knick, who has served since 2018, will move into a leadership position within the County Administrator’s Office.

NEWS BRIEFS: Ninth Suwanee Arts Festival scheduled for April 29-30

The Suwanee Arts Center is gearing up to celebrate its ninth annual Suwanee Arts Festival. The event is a highlight of downtown Suwanee’s event schedule, with vibrant, eclectic and family-friendly art and activities. The festival will take place on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  and Sunday, April 30 from noon to 5 p.m.

The City of Municipal Court has launched a Citation Amnesty Program. The Court is offering this first-time program to address the need to close pending cases with outstanding failure to appear (FTA) warrants.
