By Elliott Brack  |  Last week’s discharge of School Superintendent Alvin Wilbanks from his post leading the Gwinnett County Board of Education came as no surprise. The Black majority on the board made good on its promise to voters to replace him.

BRACK: Come together, Georgia, to stop these senseless shootings

By Elliott Brack  |  The senseless shooting rampage that killed eight Georgians this week tears at your very being. It horrifies us. Can’t we as a people do better than that?

It seems  that shootings in America, and now in Georgia, are beginning to be routinely expected. Each week gives new accounts:

BRACK: C’mon, Lawrenceville, don’t develop Crogan-Clayton corner

By Elliott Brack   |  The City of Lawrenceville may be on the verge of defaming a facility of which they should be most proud. This county seat government has before it what is described as a “feeler proposal” to develop a sliver of land next to the now-just-about-completed Cultural Arts Center at the intersection of Clayton and Crogan Streets.  A sign on the property indicates both businesses and condos are being considered, with the location potentially to be called “The Winn, East Crogan Street Lofts.” The property measures 70 x 300 feet.

BRACK: Is “national search” necessary for next superintendent?

By Elliott Brack  |  The new Black majority on the Gwinnett School Board seems intent on curtailing the leadership of Alvin Wilbanks as its superintendent. However, Mr. Wilbanks has a contract through June 2022, and has no intention to leave sooner.

BRACK: Extremes in local weather; Why your mail arrived later

By Elliott Brack |  Georgia and Atlanta have experienced relatively warm temperatures this winter. Lucky for us, we didn’t see the extreme low temperatures that hit Texas during January.

While we prefer the warmer climes, we always like to see a fairly low, below freezing, day or two in order to kill the unwanted insects around the yard.  But extreme lows haven’t hit Atlanta this  year.

BRACK: Legislators’ meddling with Georgia’s time is waste of energy

By Elliott Brack  |  Time in the United States is permanently set…..with our nation divided into four continental time zones. It’s been that since 1883, when pushed by the nation’s railroads, all the states began using a standard time.  (The time grid is really six zones, with both Alaska and Hawaii having added time zones of their own.)

BRACK: Recall elections: a safeguard that is difficult to pull off

By Elliott Brack  |  The Constitution of the State of Georgia has certain provisions in it that give protection to those of us who elect public officials. When someone is elected to office, but begins to stir trouble, or acts untoward in that office, the Constitution says that these people may be voted out of office through a “recall” election.
