BRACK: Extremes in local weather; Why your mail arrived later

By Elliott Brack |  Georgia and Atlanta have experienced relatively warm temperatures this winter. Lucky for us, we didn’t see the extreme low temperatures that hit Texas during January.

While we prefer the warmer climes, we always like to see a fairly low, below freezing, day or two in order to kill the unwanted insects around the yard.  But extreme lows haven’t hit Atlanta this  year.

BRACK: Legislators’ meddling with Georgia’s time is waste of energy

By Elliott Brack  |  Time in the United States is permanently set…..with our nation divided into four continental time zones. It’s been that since 1883, when pushed by the nation’s railroads, all the states began using a standard time.  (The time grid is really six zones, with both Alaska and Hawaii having added time zones of their own.)

BRACK: Recall elections: a safeguard that is difficult to pull off

By Elliott Brack  |  The Constitution of the State of Georgia has certain provisions in it that give protection to those of us who elect public officials. When someone is elected to office, but begins to stir trouble, or acts untoward in that office, the Constitution says that these people may be voted out of office through a “recall” election.

BRACK: Someone illegally parking in handicapped zone burns me up

By Elliott Brack  |  Does it bother you when people park illegally in handicapped parking spaces?

Grrrr. It really burns me up.  It’s an act of private aggression and at the same time a violation of the common laws of our community. And it is downright infuriating to see a person park in such a space when their vehicle does not have a handicapped sticker.

BRACK: Rural Georgia needs speedy expansion of broadband internet

By Elliott Brack  |  Rural broadband in Georgia got a boost—a slight one—this week when Gov. Brian Kemp announced that two rural electric co-ops in Middle Georgia will be offering high speed Internet service to their 80,000 customers. With the General Assembly now in session, providing broadband to these areas ought to be the Number One priority for rural legislators, who must convince the rest of the General Assembly that their areas suffer dramatically without this high-speed Internet service.

BRACK: Gwinnett, Buford dealing with the state for water allocation

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher  |  With Gwinnett County getting its drinking water from Lake Lanier, any modification in policy regarding that water is significant. However, a new agreement announced this week for water supply isn’t as significant as it may have first appeared.
